Aside from the bible...This is the greatest book I have ever read! I, like many others, read it in 2 days because I couldnt put it down. Its like you go into another world and you are living with them and experiencing all they are. It was a required reading for 9th grade. Im so glad I was introduced to this great book. I have a copy that is more than 13 years old and I re-read it every couple of years. I have towns that I have been to highlighted. I lived in Arcadia and Okeechobee. I just love it.

There are simply some books that you don't lend out. "A Land Remembered" in particular. Six months later, you still have a hole in your bookshelf. If you treasure your books, you are angry at a friend, and he or she is too embarrassed to mention that he or she hasn't returned your book because someone else has it and they can't remember who took it from them.
On the accounting side, the money you
spend would be the equivalent of taking someone out for a good lunch.
Imagine the difference between that and the hours and days of enjoying
one of Patrick Smith's books, and knowing on top of it that it was a
gift.

This
isn't a book you want to lend to a friend or to family - you'll never
get it back. BUY copies for them - every Floridian should be issued a
copy at birth, and everyone who moves here should have to buy one when
they get their driver's license. I just finished "Cross Creek" by MKR,
and while that is certainly a great book, and everyone should read it -
everyone MUST read "A Land Remembered." I grew up in the areas
described by the book, and reading it awakened a whole new sense of
pride and wonderment at what it meant to settle this great state.

read this novel a few years ago and probably not a day goes by that it
doesn't cross my mind. It has been a wonderful conversation piece for
three generations in the Boatright Family. I only wish my grandfathers
could have read it.
